Sky Country

Sky Country

Assembly for the Future | Live from Blakfullas University
Dispatch by | Huong Truong
Future generated with | Dearna, Phoebe, Emma, Teresa & Deborah.

Depicted is a nighttime scene in the year 2029, under a cloudless sky with the Crux constellation (also known as the Southern Cross) and where the Emu in the Sky constellation is extra bright.

The foreground is black except for the glow of an Aboriginal stone arrangement known as Wurdi Youang.

In 2029, light and air pollution has reduced dramatically. As we collectively grieve and country heals, BLAKFULLAS University rebuilds First Peoples’ astronomy and cultural knowledge.

Wurdi Youang was built by the Wathaurong people (in Western Victoria). It is an arrangement of about 100 stones, in an egg-shaped formation running West-East. It’s thought to be 11,000 years old and aligned to the position of the setting sun at the equinox and the solstices – an example of First Peoples Astronomy. Source: Norris, Norrise, Hamacher & Abrahams (2012)
